Strictly no dancing?

24-Oct-08 14:05

A recent story on the BBC highlighted that Dr Peter Lovatt, a psychologist at the University of Hertfordshire, is asking men to classify their dancing style as part of his research into whether there is a connection between how men dance, how attractive women find them.

This makes interesting reading for me personally, as my hubby to be has, let's just say a very ‘unique' dance style, and I'm contemplating how the first dance at our wedding is going to pan out. Always sure to draw a crowd when he hits the dance floor, his legs seem to be doing their own thing (I pity the person who is within a meter of that stray leg) and as for the top half of his body... well I think that's listening to completely different track entirely! Now if I had the coordination of a two year old trying to master roller-skates before they've even learnt to walk I'd probably avoid venturing onto the dance floor.

With the ever popular ‘Strictly Come Dancing' craze sweeping the nation, dancing itself has become incredibly popular over the last few years. In fact, we've even launched a team sweepstake on this year's ‘strictly line-up' my money is on Lisa Snowdon.

I'll be interested in seeing the results of this research and to see if any tips from Len Goodman have paid off for the male population that are regularly hitting the dance floors of our pubs and clubs - watch this space...

Ho! Ho! Ho!

17-Oct-08 17:32

The town of Coleford, Gloucestershire has been making headlines this week having already put up their Christmas decorations even though there are still two weeks until Halloween and the clocks haven't gone back yet! I read this story on Sky News during a time when people are still reminiscing about summer holidays and children going back to school. What a way to kick start the Christmas shopping frenzy, and more importantly what a great PR stunt!

The council explained that the reason for this prompt start is that they rely on volunteers to give up their weekends to help string up the numerous lights and Christmas trees put in place to bring Christmas cheer to the town. If they began this process any later it would simply not be ready in time and using volunteers saves the council money. The former mayor explains ‘' A town near us spent something like £19,000 on hiring their Christmas lights last year. We spend about £6,000 for insurance and hard hats and so on''.

Perhaps we should all follow Coleford's example and get in the Christmas spirit early? So let's stock up on mince pies and start wishing for snow.
