THE CHALLENGE:

Mapsinternational.co.uk is the UKs largest online mapping resource and travel guide shop. The sole purpose of the PR programme is to drive traffic to the site and to raise awareness of the issues surrounding maps and travel. Our target audience is the mass-consumer market and the education sector (i.e. teachers, government education)

When we first began working with the company in November 2007, it was relatively unknown from a consumer point of view. Today Ascent PR is generating first class press coverage for mapsinternational.co.uk in its tier one media.

STRATEGY & RESULTS:

We have generated a number of issues-based viewpoints aimed at primary school teachers and the education press focusing on a campaign to bring maps back into the classroom. In addition we recently launched a regional school campaign whereby we invited key journalists to attend and event hosted by mapsinternational.co.uk, including interactive talks, a giant world floor map and various map resources were donated to schools. This campaign is still ongoing and we have already achieved coverage on television in BBC Oxford news, four local radio interviews in advance of the event and secured thirteen journalist's who attended the event. Coverage is also anticipated in Education Today, Junior Education Plus and Primary Times.

We also conducted a number of straw polls and surveys to proactively generate headlines for news stories. These have included a honeymoon map aimed at the wedding media looking at the top 10 romantic destinations, a hot destinations map aimed at the national press and focused on summer holiday-related surveys and the first giant upside down world map aimed to encourage people to look at the world from a different perspective.

The above activity has resulted in a high level of coverage being achieved on BBC Breakfast television and local radio and in key national newspapers including: the The Times, Independent, The Sun, e-motion, Geographical, Travel & Leisure, Teacher's Magazine, QA Education, Out & About Magazine, Teaching Today, Head Teacher Update, Primary Times, Further Education Today, Independent Education Today, Wedding Professional, Pure Weddings and County Weddings.
